Strafford
Strafford is a city in eastern Greene County, Missouri, United States. The city is part of the Springfield, Missouri, Metropolitan Statistical Area. The population of Strafford is estimated at 2,561 as of the 2020 census. In 2010, the city was incorporated. The area is home to various industries and is a great place to live. There are a variety of things to do in Strafford, including attending local festivals and visiting local attractions.
In the early twentieth century, Strafford was a small agricultural town on the main railroad. However, in 1926, Route 66 was aligned through the town, helping to keep the town going. In 1952, the route became a freeway, bypassing the town. The city incorporated in 1961. It is connected to other cities via I-44 highway and U.S. 66, and there are many lodging and dining options along the main street.
Residents of Strafford belong to a wide range of races. Almost all residents of Strafford are United States citizens. This figure was 100% in 2018. However, it has decreased since then. Many Strafford residents come from important ancestries, such as Polish, German, English, and European. In addition to being a United States citizen, Strafford’s population is also largely comprised of military veterans. There are a large number of veterans in Strafford, and many military families reside in the town.
Before the railroad reached the area, Strafford was connected by a road called Wire Road. It connected St. Louis to Fort Smith in Arkansas and later became a main route from Springfield to Rolla. The road became State Highway DD. In 1870, the road from Springfield to Rolla went through the Strafford area. By 1873, the town was platted, and a post office was established on land donated by Mrs. Sarah Lane.
