The city of Clever, Missouri, is situated in Christian County, in the United States. At the 2010 census, the city’s population was 2,139. It is a part of the Springfield, Missouri, Metropolitan Statistical Area. Clever grew significantly between the years 2000 and 2010.
The town’s name is a combination of two words: clever and village. The name “Clever” was suggested by local resident Tom Lentz. The small community grew slowly in the early 1900s, but in the year 1902, a blacksmith shop, a second store building, a meeting hall, and a tomato canning factory were built. The community filed for its incorporation as a city in February 1909, and the Christian County court approved the plat in the same year.

One category F4 tornado struck Clever on 11/29/1991, killing 2 and injuring 64. It was estimated that this tornado caused up to $5 million to $50 million in damage.
